Afternoon Tea Time

Pink Floyd - Goodbye Blue Sky

Love this - the visuals still chill me to this day.

What day is it today?

Today I am kinda blah. You can't be bright and sparkly every day right? No real reason, no-one's fault, nothing wrong and no I'm not mad at anyone, I'm just having a blah day.
What to do on yuck days like today? Sit outside in the sun? Red a book? What?
I usually just avoid people when I am in a bad mood. Makes perfect sense to me, who wants to hang out with someone who is grumpy? Not me that's for sure. If I could I would stay in bed all day. It's so cozy and comfy but that's not the way today is going to be spent. I'm going to work, wrangle the kids and dogs, do laundry and the usual stuff.

On the bright side I am kinda excited because today is the last day I have to do something and tomorrow is kind of a life reboot day for me. I'm not going to go into details here but those of you who know know what I am talking about. It amazes me how much more positive things are now - even though every now and then I can still have a bad day. Everyone has bad days - that's just what I have to remember.

I have started doing this when I am having a bad day. I list the things that made it a "bad" day and then find the equal number of things that were good. Yesterday there were three things that were bad and then I thought about three things that were good and the day ended up being a "good" day. It's all about the way you perceive things I guess. Attitude is everything.

I have written before about how powerful I find words to be and something I have done since I was a teenager has been to collect quotes. I wish I had a photo of my room when I was in high school. I used to go to the library, study the books of quotes and write the ones I liked and put them on my wall. I had hundreds and hundreds of them on my wall. All sorts of quotes and I read them as a kind of therapy I guess. Words = power and these words made me feel stronger.

These days I read quotes on a daily basis. They can be about absolutely anything but I read them and think about them. I really think about them.

Here are a couple I am pondering right now:

A pessimist sees only the dark side of the clouds, and mopes; a philosopher sees both sides, and shrugs; an optimist doesn't see the clouds at all - he's walking on them.
Leonard Louis Levinson

One of the things I learned the hard way was that it doesn't pay to get discouraged. Keeping busy and making optimism a way of life can restore your faith in yourself.
Lucille Ball

I am a big believer that eventually everything comes back to you. You get back what you give out.
Nancy Reagan

Just because you can, doesn't mean you should

Old Facebook Note from 2007

Isn't it strange how you totally forget about something until one day you drive past it one day and suddenly you see the building and remember...

"Oh yeah! That was the place that I walked into a porno being shot!"

I totally forgot about it but remember last year when I was doing voice over work that company? When I got the second voice over job I went to the place where the company was but I didn't know they had moved to a new building. I went into the building and tried to remember what floor they were on as there were no signs in the lobby and only three floors to chose from. I saw some of the usual star wagons out the front (the mobile dressing rooms you see everywhere in the valley) but I didn't think anything of it. I walked up and down the stairs but I couldn't find JBI. I tried to call but they weren't picking up the phone. I saw a person going into the lift so I thought maybe it was on the third floor. I waited until the elevator came back and pushed 3. When the doors opened two police men got into the elevator to go downstairs. I thought that was a bit strange. I stepped out and looked around and saw pink feather boas, wardrobes on racks that looked a bit leathery and lots of "hot in a porn way" women. There was an assistant with a headset on. I must have looked really confused as she asked me who I was looking for. My eyes were as big as the moon I think. I told her I was looking for JBI and she said that they weren't up here as they were filming. I agreed and pushed the down button next to the elevator. When the elevator arrived the policemen (who now I knew weren't really policemen as I got a closer look at them) got back out onto the thrid floor and said bye to me. As I went down the elevator I felt a bit like Alice in Wonderland waking up. I was thinking about what was going on up there and how so many people were driving and walking past and had no idea.

Yep, it was on Topanga Canyon Blvd, of course in Canoga Park - home of porn.

That was a true story.
The google earth picture of the office building where I walked into a porno being shot last year. How on earth did I forget about that??????

Hopefully the beginning of a life long love.

White Rabbit Truck Pics

Jay is finally getting into the swing of things with the food trucks. Tonight we tried a new one for us -the White Rabbit Truck. Yay! The food was amazing and it was my very first time eaiting Fillipino food. Remember though, the truck experience isn't just about the food, it's the hanging with the friends that is the best part - for me anyhow.

Cupcakes!

Lady Ducayne wrote a great write up of cupcake testing last Friday night. I didn't take a lot of photos as I knew she would. Here is her post from the always amazing Lady Ducayne Blog - and NO I won't tell you who she is. :)

Bake You Happy, Private Cupcake Tasting, 2.0, Castaic

Last year I happened upon Bake You Happy’s cupcakes by chance at Its A Grind, Castaic. I loved them so much that I knew I wanted to tell my friends. And that is when I asked Kim if she would set a price and let us do a cupcake tasting. That night was one of the best outings ever! We all became Bake You Happy fans! Success! They don’t have a storefront, but you can place custom orders for cakes and cupcakes by going to their website. They do amazing work and they have a variety of flavors as well.
In recent conversation the idea of getting together for a second cupcake tasting came up, so I contacted Kim and asked her if she’d be willing to do it again. I was so happy when she said she would and quickly got to work on picking the flavors.
I picked six flavors, most of which were new, two of which we had tasted last time. The previous flavors were caramel apple and heavenly chocolate. The new flavors were strawberry, lemon, banana, and snickerdoodle.
As a bonus, Kim brought red velvet for us! We had all enjoyed that flavor last time! That was a lovely surprise! Last time I think there were only 15 of us, but this time around there were about 22 of us in attendance! The tasting went by super quick, much faster than last time, but it all worked out as we had a second stop tonight.
As Kim went through and introduced each flavor there was a lot of “OMGZ” “SO GOOD” and fingerlicking heard within Its A Grind, which graciously hosted us. I didn’t stop and photograph every cupcake individually since I was busy eating, but these are the ones I was able to get:
Red Velvet
Heavenly Chocolate – Love.
Banana
Caramel Apple
Strawberry
This was a total success and I want to thank Kim for all of her hard work! Seriously, if you ever need a cake or a cupcake, Bake You Happy is a good choice.
And a HUGE thanks to everyone that came out: Mike, Jacob, Scott, Bree, Madeline, Greg, Kendra, Jay, Susan, Teagan, Troy, Hsiawen, Deb + sisters, Mike M., Cherylle + kids, RE, Jeffrey, Aleks + friend, and Andreanna!

Sesame Street and Me

I am going to write about my love for Sesame Street later on but I just found these clips of the brilliant show that you need to watch.

Kermit and his teeth - this used to scare the shit out of me (really)

Our family favourite - Here fishy fishy fishy...

My friends rock

Wake up, check my phone and see I have a text.
It says: "Do you get the times?"
"No. Why?!!" I reply.

I get this texted to me:

My friends know me too well. If you don't know who this is then it sucks to be you.
My friends rock.
