Mother's Day Tea Party

I was invited to a tea party by Troy. It was at his school in room #109 and I was told to not be late.

I sat down in my seat and saw handmade things with hearts and mom all over them. I saw Troy at the front of the class and he looked so happy to have me there. I was so happy to be there. I looked through the things he had so carefully made for me. I reminded myself to take a mental photo of the Troy standing up there looking at me so lovingly and of the things he had made. I knew right then that this was in a way the beginning of the end. I know that soon I will open my eyes and he will be 16.

Troy had made me a hat. He said it took a long time to make it because he had to twist all the little pieces of paper onto a pencil and glue to the hat. I loved my hat and made sure to put the string behind my ears like Mickey Mouse ears.

Troy and his class lined up at the front and sang us for songs. Mrs Levine told us that the handbags the kids had  me had tissues inside in case we got misty eyed from the kids singing. I did.

I got a little bit of the singing on video for you:

We got to join in with them singing "You are my sunshine". It was so cute. The tissue was used.
After the singing the kids came up and gave us hugs and told us all about the work they had done for us.

This is what I got:
*"I love my mom because - she helps me grow".
*"Hats off to Mom - by Troy
I love my mom because...she makes me wofls wif sirop. She helps me... dow my homewrok. She finds time to...go to six flags wif my. My mom is the best mom ever."
*"My Mom by Troy -
My mom looks the prettiest when she makes me pancakes. My mom cooks the best chicken. I help my mom cook. I like it when my mom plays with me. Thank you, Mom, for giving me lots of love."

After the reading we got some morning tea from the kids. Troy went and got me some water and a brownie and happily watched me eat it. When it was his turn to get his food he brought me back an extra cookie.

While we were chatting away Troy was busy taking photos of his friend Erin. She is adorable!!

I had such a great time and I really really hope they do the same thing for Father's Day as I know Jay would get a kick out of it too. Thanks Troy, I love you so much and I am so proud of you!!

Secret to happiness - staying up late and getting less sleep?

I have been trying to fight it for years. It has been all more messed up since I had kids. I think I can say for sure with no doubt that I am a night owl. I seem to function better on less sleep and I am in a better mood when I get to stay up late and sleep in late.
This is hard when you have kids.
Now it is getting slightly easier as the kids are slightly more self sufficient in the mornings. Troy is a champ. He wakes up, gets dressed and walks in with his bed head and always asks if he play the Wii. Every weekday I say no and every weekend I say yes. Teagan is a different story. She gets very very agitated like her dad if she is woken up before she is ready. Whoa. You know that you are going to have a bad day if you have to wake her up as she never really recovers from her pissed off mood. Morning Meanies.
This is also hard when you have a husband who is a morning bird.
Jay has been waking up early for the past 6 years for work. At one stage the poor thing was working 5am to 8pm. I felt bad for him (and me) as were never on the same body clock or timeclock.
Now it's not as bad as he works less hours and only has to be up super duper early once a week. He still gets up early a lot to do his P90X, I stay in bed.
For me I love being up late. I watch terrible tv and talk with my friends online and work. Due to the nature of the adult toy biz it is easier for me to get stuff done when the kids are asleep. I'm not ready to explain exactly how the "Wild and Ready G" works to a 3 and 6 year old. (TMI for most adults and totally not appropriate for my kids). There is an entire world online at night that is amazing. Amazing people many of which I have met personally who are night owls like me . I've said it before and I'll say it again, as strange as some people may find it I have met the majority of my friends since moving to America online. Jay plays Fantasy sports online. I talk to my actual friends. It's a win win.

I am a night owl. My necklace says so. Thanks Sarah!!

Last night I was tired and went to bed early, I crashed at 930! This morning I woke up and I feel muddy headed and unfocused. When I get less sleep I wake up feeling sharp and ready to go. When I thought about it I found it to be interesting as I would have thought it was the opposite. I am not the usual person so maybe that's why....
So the dilemma is thus - Jay goes to sleep early and I stay up late. I was starting to feel like I was being neglectful but seriously if I am not tired why should I go to bed and lay there?  I thought that I would discuss this with my husband as more often than not I assume that things I do piss him off so I am trying to turn over a new leaf and communicate. Yep the big bad C word. I asked him if he was was bothered by me being up so late. He sweetly asked me if it made me happy. I said yes. His response was that he didn't care at all as he knew I was a night owl and I that I would probably always be. BIG HUG! It's nice to be understood and now when I am up late with the midnight crew it's all good as I know he is ok with that. The other reason he's happy may be that I wake him up when I go to bed but that's all I'm saying *wink*.

My name is Susan and I am a night owl - how about you?

Screw You Mouse!

Update at end (5-5-10)

I hate mice. They stink and they are dirty and they spread disease. If you are a mouse lover, sorry, I hate mice. Stevenson Ranch seems to have a surplus of mice. Every year they seem to end up in my house. I can always smell them before I see them. Usually it is late at night when I am working and I think I am seeing things out of the corner of my eye but I KNOW it is a mouse. I want a cat to stop these mice. Byron is a good little alerter of the mice being around but he never catches them. Magnus barks too but seems less interested in mice than bunnies. He doesn't catch them either.
For the past couple of nights I have been up late as usual and I saw the usual flash in the corner of my eye. F! Mice. Let me copy and paste the twitter feed from me re/mice:

There are three of us up really late usually. Renee, Jason and myself with the occasional other person thrown in for good measure.
This is what I was talking about last night and this morning in reverse:
